ACA's first resident artist was James Turrel Alan and Helen worked  with Tracey Warr and Rob LaFrenais to build a Skyspace at Black Hill on the boarder of Cumbria and Northumberland.

Unfortunately the project suffered from vindictive locals who resented the build of anything new.

The Skyspace was finally refused planning permission  by the DOE on the grounds of being inappropriate. This was never contested and the project was taken by ACE to Kielder where no planning permission was required.
