Established in 1994 by Alan Smith and Helen Ratcliffe ACA works from an old Victorian Schoolhouse situated on a steep hill overlooking the village of Allenheads in Northumberland. ACA also have an exhibition/studio space in the centre of the village in the old village post office and shop. ACAshop is primarily used as an open studio and exhibition space, it has also housed performances, workshops and symposia.

For 20+ years Allenheads Contemporary Arts have designed and delivered innovative contemporary arts projects that often fall across diverse specialist subjects, working with experts from Universities and commercial industries. Over the years we have built varied interpretations and interactions with the environment through a wide-ranging programme of research and education, both locally and internationally.

ACA work with both regional and international artists through their early careers and beyond by providing placement, residency and exhibition opportunities.
